A solo career spanning more than 20 years...

…began in 1998 and continues to this day. With 8 studio albums, 44 singles, 3 official Live DVDs and multiple collaborations, Melanie is one of the most successful British artists of our time.

Melanie, a member of the Spice Girls, made her first solo outing with Canadian artist Bryan Adams. It would be a chance encounter in an elevator when Bryan asked Melanie to record with him. The result was ‘When You’re Gone’, which became an instant classic and reached #3 on the UK singles chart.

In 1999, Melanie released her debut solo album ‘Northern Star’, reaching #4 on the UK album chart, it was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. A total of 5 singles were released from the album, with two peaking at #1 in the UK: ‘Goin’ Down‘ (#4),’ Northern Star’ (#4), ‘Never Be The Same Again’ a collaboration with TLC’s Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes (#1), ‘I Turn To You’ (#1) and ‘If That Were Me’ (#18). Hex Hector’s remix of ‘I Turn To You’ earned him a Grammy for Remixer of the Year in 2001.

In 2003, Melanie released her second studio album, Reason. Melanie released the singles ‘Here It Comes Again‘, ‘On The Horizon‘, ‘Yeh, Yeh, Yeh‘ and the ballad ‘Melt‘.

In 2004, after parting with Virgin Records, Melanie founded her own record company, ‘Red Girl Records’ in tribute to Liverpool F.C, her favourite football team. The company, which is still active today, opened in 2005 with the release of Melanie’s third studio album, ‘Beautiful Intentions‘ and sold more than 1.5 million copies. The album spawned the singles ‘Next Best Superstar’,Better Alone’ and a 2006 reissue of the album included the ballad ‘First Day Of My Life‘. The song was a major success in several European countries and reached #1 in Germany, Switzerland and Spain among others. Also in 2006, Melanie released: ‘Melanie C Live Hits’, a DVD featuring a collection of live hits and was separated into two sets: Acoustic and Electronic.

In 2007, just before the long-awaited comeback tour with Spice Girls, Melanie launched her fourth studio album, ‘This Time’. Melanie continued to combine her solo career with her commitments to the Spice Girls until 2008. From the album, several songs saw success in many different countries across Europe. The singles ‘The Moment You Believe’ was (#1 in Spain for two weeks), ‘I Want Candy’, ‘Carolyna’, ‘This Time’ and ‘Understand’ were also released. 

In 2009, Melanie released ‘Melanie C: Live At The Hard Rock Cafe’ on DVD, with all proceeds going to the Caron Keating Foundation.

Melanie’s fifth studio album, ‘The Sea’ was finally released in 2011. The album saw Melanie experiment with electronic and dance sounds again, without losing sight of her pop roots. The singles ‘Think About It’, ‘Rock Me’ (the official song of the German channel ZDF for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup broadcasts), ‘Weak’ and ‘Let There Be Love’ were all released from The Sea. In February 2012, Melanie released the DVD ‘The Sea Live’ with live performances from ‘The Sea’ tour.

In 2012, Melanie collaborated with DJ Jodie Harsh, releasing the three-track EP, ‘The Night’, from which the promotional single ‘Set You Free’ was released. Also in 2012, ‘Stages’ was released, Melanie’s sixth studio album and consisted of cover songs taken from musicals. The album included the songs ‘I Don’t Know How To Love Him’ (promotional single) and the lead single, a collaboration with fellow Spice Girl, Emma Bunton, ‘I Know Him So Well’ was taken from the musical ‘Chess’.

In 2013 and 2014, Melanie collaborated with a variety of artists and released ‘Loving You’ and its Spanish version ‘I love you’ with Matt Cardle as well as ‘Cool As You’ with Peter Aristone.

It wasn’t until 2016 when Melanie was back with her seventh studio album, ‘Version Of Me’. The album reached #25 on the UK album chart. From the album, Melanie released ‘Anymore’, ‘Dear Life’, ‘Hold On’ with Alex Francis and ‘Room For Love’.

In 2019, after completing the stadium shows for the ‘Spice World Tour’ with the Spice Girls, Melanie embarked on another World Tour, this time Melanie performed at a number of Pride Festivals around the world with Sink the Pink. This tour led to the launch of the single ‘High Heels’.

In October 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, Melanie, after having released several singles from her upcoming album, decided to take a risk and release her eighth studio album ‘Melanie C’. It was Melanie’s most personal and sincere album to date. Audiences and critics praised the new album, which saw Melanie back in the UK Top 10 album chart. Taken from the album, the songs ‘Who I Am’, ‘Blame It On Me’, ‘In & Out Of Love’, ‘Fearless’ with Nadia Rose, ‘Overload’ and ‘Into You’ were released. 

In addition, during 2021, Melanie has released a number of acoustic tracks, including ‘Too Much’ by the Spice Girls and Melanie’s #1 ‘Never Be The Same Again’, which has been reinterpreted and updated for 2021.

It is clear that after more than 20 years, with eight studio albums, 11 UK number one singles (9 with the Spice Girls), over 20 million albums sold, multiple awards and recognition and even a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records, the career of Melanie and her discography is a treasure to be valued.
